Health Tips From Chiropractors

Are you determined to live a healthier life in 2019 and beyond? We’re sure that these helpful health tips from chiropractors will get you started.

Stretch Regularly

Stretching loosens up the muscles in your back that are often responsible for back pain. Regular stretching also helps to improve blood flow to the spine. Simple stretches like touching your toes can work wonders – just be sure to focus on keeping the back flat and extended at all times as rounding can have the complete opposite effect! If you need to, use props. You’ll get more benefit out of your stretch that way.

Pay Attention to Your Sleeping Position

Approximately 1 in 5 people spend most of their time sleeping on their stomachs. Unfortunately, this is one of the worst positions to sleep in if you suffer from back or neck pain – in fact, it could be the cause of it. When you sleep on your stomach, you’re forced to turn your head to the side, and this can put a lot of strain on the vertebrae in the neck. It’s recommended to sleep on your back, or on your side with a pillow between your knees, instead.

Be Aware of How You Sit

The vast majority of us spend hours upon hours each day sitting at our desks in front of our computers. Not only is this bad for health in general, but the way in which we sit can also take a toll on our spinal health, specifically. Crossing your legs messes with the natural position of the spine and this can lead to pain over time. Spinal health can be improved by sitting with both feet planted firmly on the ground, maintaining a good, upright posture and by placing your laptop close to eye-level so that you don’t have to look down all the time and put strain on your neck.

As you can see, better spinal health (and health in general) all comes down to posture and awareness. Remember, if ever you find yourself suffering from persistent neck or back pain, seek help from a chiropractor immediately. The longer you leave it, the more difficult it will be to remedy.
